Choice of Pos System
There are so many pos systems in the market with differing capabilities. So how does one know which is the suitable one?
A good approach is to assess a pos system based on your company's requirements and not go just for the absolute number of features in it or buy based on sale pitch or packaging which are not necessarily indications of the quality of the software.
More unadvisable still is to settle on a pos system with inadequate features just because it is cheaper by a few hundred dollars than a far more powerful one that suits your business needs quite well.
In other words, if you must have a pos system make it a really good one. Otherwise a cash register would do. And in fact this is the case in the market. What pass for pos systems are sometimes nothing more than enhanced cash registers.
Nor does it really matter that a pos system is widely used because for all you know it is an old dos system popular at one time but one that some users may now be hoping to upgrade to a newer window-based system.
For assessment of pos system, use our checklist below as a guide for a start. Then if possible get someone who has a good knowledge on software, for instance, a software programmer, to help test out various pos systems.
